Morning Inspiration with Pastor Merritt It is obvious that a torch that is not lit is useless. A flashlight that is not turned on is powerless. A match that is not struck is unnecessary. A candle that does not burn is irrelevant. A light that is not allowed to shine so that others can see it is of no benefit whatsoever. Jesus could have compared Himself to any medium He wanted to but He chose light. What He was saying was obvious, “What light is to the physical world I am to the spiritual world.” You cannot really appreciate the value of light until you understand the reality of darkness. Whether you realize it or not everyone is born in darkness, everyone lives in darkness, and everyone will die in darkness unless they come to the light. Perhaps you are here today and you know what it is like to live in the darkness of an addiction that enslaves you, the darkness of having no purpose or meaning in your life, the darkness of failed marriages, shattered friendships, broken relationships, bitterness and regrets. One of the reasons why Jesus came into this world was to expose just how dark this world is. A few chapters earlier, Jesus said this, “And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil.” (John 3:19) That is exactly what light does. It exposes anything in the dark. The reason I can see you in this room is because there is light in this room. If there was no light I could here you, but I couldn’t see you. Light enables us to see things that have been there all the time, but which we could never see until the light shines. Back in the 1950’s the number one country singer was a man by the name of Hank Williams, Jr. One of his best selling hits was a song that many of us have heard whether you like country music or not. It is entitled, “I Saw The Light.” One of the verses goes like this: Just like a blind man I wandered along Worries and fears I claimed for my own Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight Praise the lord I saw the light. Hank Williams was a blind man living in a dark world, but he didn’t know it until he came to the light. Share this with a friend. Give them the gift of God’s inspiration. #Jesus #Christian #Church #Faith
