Morning Reading. So dig this writer Bret Anthony Johnston. In his collection of stories entitled Corpus Christi, a line that ended a story goes like this: Really, as with us all, that was all shed ever wanted, someone to watch over her, someone who would lie and tell her not to be afraid, someone who would always, always say, Dont worry, Im Here. Damn. This story pulled me through the emotions of mother and her son wrestling with the existence of her cancer. Trying to shuffle their relationship, from the past and now, hit places that sent ripples into my heart. His words are like recipes to the human condition-- confirming, reassuring, that we all have the required ingredients to stay viable, we just sometimes dont know how much of what to make it all come together. Too many writers ignore these recipes, not knowing how to work with these ingredients--but Mr. Johnston gets it. :)
