Morning everyone. This year is a tough and trying year for many people including us Malaysians, the latest trial being the sad news about MH17. Our hearts and prayers goes out to the families and friends of the passengers and crew. In times like this, there arises another tragic phenomena: the rise of keyboard warriors. Ive been reading the conversations and posts that go on surrounding these events. There are a lot of cruel words, insensitive words, people who have no or little knowledge on a particular subject, speaking as if they have all the answers, and then, dragging politics, race and religion into the conversations and sigh, we know where that would lead to. I understand the anger and frustration and all that. I feel it too and I feel it deeply. But at a time when compassion is needed, support, affirmation, and yes, unity, so many choose the opposite. We forget who we truly are and become self-righteous, arrogant, insensitive, and then, totally undiscerning with our careless words, and bloated with our biased views and encouraged by other like-minded people, we let loose our words that hurt, arouse more anger and sow the seeds of future discontent and disunity in this country. I appeal to all, build, not tear. Affirm, not attack. Love, not hate. Ponder, not react. And when faced with harshness, forgive, not retaliate. Our collective words on social media has an effect. I plead with all, use that freedom to heal and build. And if my words has offended you, I beg your pardon. Have a safe and good weekend ahead.
