#MorningDevotion BURDENS! One hot afternoon an old woman was walking along one of those long, straight dusty roads, carrying a huge bundle of dry branches on her head. A farmer came by in his pickup truck and recognised her as one of the workers on his neighbours farm. He offered her a lift and she gratefully accepted After driving a few miles, the farmer looked in the rear-view mirror and was amazed to see the old woman at the back of the pickup truck still balancing the huge bundle on her head. Stopping, he asked her: Why dont you put the firewood down next to you? Youll be much more comfortable. Aggh, she replied, you have been so kind to give me a lift that I didnt want to burden your car with any more weight. I know you are laughing or you probably have a smile on your face - and you think thats crazy. But dont we often behave just like that in our relationship with God? Matthew 11:28-30(CEV) If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. 29 Take the yoke[a] I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. 30 This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light. Jesus says “IF” you are tired of carrying heavy burdens you should go to him and He will give you rest. Many of us quote this scripture and we know it by heart but do we actually practice it? Yes we go to God and we tell him all our difficulties and issues but before we say amen we pick them up again. Supposing you had a huge debt and I showed up and took responsibility over the debt such that you did not have to worry about it again, would you go home anxious and worried? What burdens are you carrying today? Could it be that you are not willing that is why you have not handed them to Jesus? Have your burdens become such an identity that you are not willing to let them go because of the pity and attention that others extend to you because of your burdens? If you are willing, Jesus is waiting to relieve you of all your burdens but then you in exchange have to take the yoke that He gives you and you have to trust Him enough to put in on and walk according to His leading. His yoke is easy to bear and His burden is light! But this is only achievable when we walk by faith and not by sight not allowing what we see to move us or to cause us to take up our burdens again to start to worry and carry the weight of anxiety. Are you saved? Do you claim to love and live for Jesus? Please dont laugh at the old woman. Have a look in the mirror are you carrying any burdens? Practical Application 1 Peter 5:7 (AMP) Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.
