#MorningDevotion Memorial Toolbox Joshua 4:1-2, 6 - 7 When all the people had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua, “Now choose twelve men, one from each tribe. Tell them to take twelve stones from the very place where the priests are standing in the middle of the Jordan. Carry them out and pile them up at the place where you will camp tonight. We will use this stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, “What do these stones mean? Then you can tell them, “They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the ark of the Lords covenant went across. These stones will stand as a memorial among the people of Israel forever. When God led the children of Israel out of Egypt they had quite the dramatic experience, crossing the red sea. Can you imagine, there they were having been set free from Egypt and no sooner had they gotten far, the Egyptians are back pursuing them. God separates them by a pillar of cloud and fire. Then the unthinkable happened, the sea parted and they crossed on dry ground while the Egyptians who were in hot pursuit were swallowed up in the water. Can you imagine being a part of that generation that experienced all that? The shocking thing is this, three days later they had forgotten all that God had done for them because they start complaining because they cannot find water. What? Are these Israelites for real? How quickly can you forget? Fast forward about 40 years later and it is time for their children to enter the Promised Land. They too have to go through a crossing but this time round God instructs them to do something that will cause them not to forget what He has done for them. They are to pick twelve stones from the Jordan River and build a memorial so that when their children ask what it is all about, then they can retell the story and relive the experience all over again, reminding themselves that God is faithful and He keeps his word! Are you building memorials as you walk with God to remind you of the things that He has brought you through or do you quickly forget? If there is one thing I have learned it is this, that with God no experience is wasted. Begin to create a memorial toolbox where you can store the memorials of what God has done in your life. As human beings we tend to forget a lot especially when we are going through a hard time. Just like the Israelites we forget all that God has done for us and we even begin to question His love for us. If you have build a memorial tool box, it is in those hard seasons that we get back to it and remind yourself and even others of the faithfulness of God and how far He has brought you for if He did it then, then surely He will not forget or forsake you now. Practical Application Begin to build a memorial toolbox today not just for you but also to build up the faith of your children and those God brings your way.
