#MorningDevotion Will The Real Christians Please Stand Up? A father was teaching his son what a Christian should be like. When the lesson was over, the father got a question he’d never forget. The little boy asked, Dad, have I ever met one of these Christians? Do you consider yourself one among those who are called Christians? What makes you know that you are a Christian? Is it because you have Christian name? Is it because you go to church regularly? Or maybe because your parents are members in the church and their names appear in the church register? What does it mean to be called a Christian? Acts 11:26b And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch. There was a reason why the disciples were called Christians. An important thing to note as we go along is that the name Christian is three quarters Christ and if you remove Christ, what you are left with has no meaning. The disciples in Antioch were called Christians because they strictly followed the teachings of Christ their master. They followed the rule of life as laid down by their master and they were not apologetic about it. It is amazing the kind of things they were able to archive as they followed strictly the way of life that Christ had taught them. When people observed them, they were reminded of the life of Christ. In today’s society many of us consider ourselves to be Christians yet we are nothing like the Christ whose name we confess. I believe it was Mahatma Gandhi who said: “I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.” No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 (NIV) “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. We are so consumed with titles but are we willing to put in the work that goes with the titles? In Today’s world, some call themselves Christians; others call themselves born again Christians while others say they are Holy Ghost filled demon chasing born again Christians. I am sure a good number of them would take off if a demon were to manifest......but the title does sound “spiritual” You are either a Christian or you are not. You either live by the teachings of Christ or you don’t. There are no two ways about it. The early disciples did not call themselves Christians, but rather it was a title they were given because of the kind of lifestyle they had adopted. Just like going to the garage will not make you a car, or going to the stadium will not make you an athlete, being born of Christian parents having a Christian name and attending Church services will not make you a Christian. You have to embrace His grace and His forgiveness and live out the life practically daily to claim the title. PRACTICAL APPLICATION Let your life be worthy of the title “Christian”.
