Most Resources in India are either wasted or foolishly sold at throw away prices to the western world; and in turn our Government, in unison with scientists, engineers, economists and other so-called experts buy obsolete technology at exorbitant costs. The case of water is a case in point. A desalination plant that can supply 150 million L of water per day would cost Rs.1500 Cr which needs to be imported; and we need to have certain special cartridge systems replaced often, which are also to be imported. Now, if a state like Tamil Nadu is to work on an indigenous method of rain water harvest the same water volume could be tapped from a total area of 100 sq Km (an area visualized as a square plot 10 Km length on two sides of the square). In spite of India having so-called citadels of Knowledge in the form of IIT,s IISc etc, we are not working on such simple engineering. the water available in such system can supply not less than 150 L per day for a Million families. This is the equivalent of the need in a City like Chennai
