Most dangerous countries for journalists..... 1.Iraq - 163 deaths since the start of the Iraq War in 2003. 2.Philippines - 76 deaths.The Maguidanao Massacre in the Philippines was the single deadliest event for journalists documented by the CPJ. At least 33 journalists were among the 58 killed in what seemed to be a politically motivated attack in November 2009. 3.Syria - 66 deaths from an ongoing civil war since 2011 4.Algeria - 60 deaths during the Civil War between 1991 and 2002 5.Russia - 56 deaths,infamous murders,a high murder rate & Russia is another country with a high number of journalists missing, with at least eight whose whereabouts are unknown. 6.Pakistan - 54 Deaths between 2009 and 2012. 7.Somalia - 53 deaths. Somalia has one of the highest rates of journalists forced into exile – 42 since 2009. 8.Colombia - 45 deaths.According to the CPJ, 23 of the 45 journalist victims in Colombia were reporting on corruption, while a further 19 were reporting on politics. All but four deaths have been recorded as murders. 9.India - 32 deaths. This includes the well-known crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey who was shot dead by multiple assailants 10.Mexico - 30 deaths 11.Brazil - 29 deaths 12.Afghanistan - 26 deaths.More than 90 per cent of journalists’ deaths in Afghanistan since 1992 have occurred since the intervention in the country by allied forces began in 1991 13.Turkey - 21 deaths.In 2013, Turkey accounted for the largest share of the world’s imprisoned journalists, incarcerating 40 of the 211 jailed around the world. 14.Sri Lanka - 14 deaths.The majority of journalist deaths in Sri Lanka occurred between 2004 and 2009, and have been linked to the Sri Lankan Civil War, though so far no one has been prosecuted. 15.Bosnia - 19 death.Journalists in Bosnia suffered heaviest during the Bosnian War from 1992 to 1995 (Data source:MSN News)
