Most districts require proof of residency when a family enrolls a child in school. Lee’s Summit this year took enforcement a step further when it hired a full-time staff member to investigate reports of children who live outside the district’s boundaries but attend its schools. The district warns it could sue violators to recoup the unpaid expenses. What should school districts do in these situations?
