Most of the photos that we put up on our Facebook page are of adoptions, or of our weekly anti-rabies camps. But there is another side to the work we do with animals. We try to treat every animal that is brought to us, regardless of whether it is someones pet, a working animal or a stray. Many have been in road accidents, some are sick and others present problems that our vets find difficult to treat. This little kitten was found in a really sorry state by a very kind lady who brought him in to us a couple of weeks ago. He had a prolapsed rectum, which means that the inside of his bottom had been pushed outside his body and had become inflamed and infected. Poor little boy was in a lot of discomfort. First of all our vets cooled the infection with ice, pushed the rectum back inside his body and tried to fix it in place with a stitch, but unfortunately that didnt work, so the following day, he had to have a general anaesthetic. In a rather complicated procedure Dr Nakul had to operate through his tummy (which is why its shaved in the photo) to stitch his rectum back in place. A couple of anxious days followed, but now, 10 days later, the kitten is doing very well. Dr Nakul says that this kind of condition can be caused by constipation, parasites or diarrhea, but that the future looks good for this little boy (nicknamed Jumping Jack because he is such a lively kitten!). You can see hes a cheeky little chappy now, and the really good news is that the lady who found him has decided that he deserves a better life, so she is going to give him his furrever home! Treatments and operations such as this cost money and we dont receive any government funding for helping strays like this little boy. So a huge thank you to all our supporters, without whom we wouldnt be able to help so many sick and injured animals. You make all the difference.
