Most that know me on Facebook know that I generally try to be tolerant of everyone and their beliefs. Recently with all that has been going in the world I have found my tolerances tested to the limits. I make no secret of the fact that I am an Atheist, but have always been of the opinion that everyone is entitled to believe what they want. But now after seeing some of the videos and photos I have seen today I am now firmly of the belief that religion has no place in this world. Religion is just wrong in all its forms. In recent weeks I have seen good friends, good folks openly support Israel and the genocide of innocent people (mainly women and children) all because of their religion. I see whole countries refusing contraceptives because in their religion it is a sin to use them, even when AIDS and other STIs are killing en mass not to mention the ever increasing global populations and limited world resources. I have seen the stories about women stoned to death simply for loving someone of a different faith (or God). And where do we even start on all the other injustices going on in the the world in the name of religion (and if I say religion I actually mean for the purposes of this post God, for if you are religious in any way you all pray to God) The persecution of Gays, Women, Those of other Faiths. It is all wrong. If any one wants to say I am wrong and that God is great etc etc then I challenge them to Google, Youtube etc what ISIS is currently doing to Christians in Iraq in the name or their god. Look at those images of beheaded children, raped women, heads stuck on sticks, all killed in the name of religion (and therefore God) and tell me that any God is worth that... Nope not now not ever in my opinion. And yes I am aware that not all religions are out there killing in such barbaric ways, but they all teach hate in one form or another. And if you are one of those religious types that says no no all of this is wrong and my God loves us all etc... then think about this, you still believe in a God (that despite supposedly being all powerful) would allow such evil to happen in his or hers or their name. I long for a world where all live in peace, but in all honesty I think,so long as there is religion and/or God this will never happen.
