Mother Knows Best Scenes 9 + 10 (***WARNING: 10 contains strong Slash suggestions***) George Morning came early for Angelina Johnson. Between all of her hours spent at work and George’s nightly waking, she was downright exhausted. Turning over, she fully expected to see George’s sleeping form next to her. But his spot was nearly empty. In George’s place was a medium-sized box, with only a red ribbon as wrapping. With the tip of her finger, Angelina poked at the box, curious as to what was inside. A small yip emitted, surprising her and causing her to jump. “George?” she called, attempting to control the urge to whip out her wand. “Coming, love,” he called, his voice traveling through their thin walls. When George appeared, he was carrying a tray loaded with Angelina’s favorite breakfast foods. “What is that?” She pointed at the box next to her, the one that had begun thumping and barking excitedly. “Well, go on then, open it.” George beamed at her, hoping she would love her present. Angelina didn’t need to be asked twice. By then, she already had an idea of what he had gotten her, and was excited to see if her predictions were true. The moment she pulled the ribbon off, the top of the box flew open and out popped the most adorable, energetic Savannah kitten she had ever laid eyes on. “Oh my,” Angelina breathed, reaching in the box to pick up the kitten. “What’s his name?” She cuddled the mewing thing thing against her chest, giggling as it tried to lick her ear. “Her,” George corrected. “Her name is Baylee. Isn’t she a beauty?” The smile that invaded his face was genuine. After a bit of kitten loving, Angelina remembered that she still had to give George his present. Reluctantly, she handed Baylee to him, and went off in search of her hiding place. She had to put a silencing spell on the place, because once she got home with his gift, she realized it was very vocal. Returning, Angelina carried a box slightly bigger than the one she received. She struggled under its weight, and George jumped up to help her. “Thank you,” she murmured, returning to her kitten. She cuddled Baylee once more as she waited patiently for him to open his present. Once George opened his present, he began rethinking his decision. Inside, a tiny Siberian Husky puppy gawked up at him. “You got me a puppy?” he questioned, picking up the itty thing with a chewed maroon bow around its neck. “How did you know?” Angelina smiled at him. She had remembered his mentioning of always wanting a puppy, and decided it would be the perfect gift for their second Christmas together. “His name is Zeus. As soon as I saw him, I knew you’d fall in love. Do you see his eyes, how he’s got one blue eye and one brown? It’s called Parti-eyed. He was born that way.” George gazed down upon his puppy. He was amazed that he could still fall more in love with Angelina, thinking that he had to have hit rock bottom by then. But no, he loved her even more for the puppy in his lap. “I love him,” he murmured with a smile. “I love you.” “I love you too,” she responded without hesitation. Looking at the clock above the wardrobe, she realized that they were running late. It seemed that they had slept in later than expected, and had to be at the Burrow in less than an hour. “We’d better start getting ready, dear. Your mum is expecting us at noon.” George moved his attention from the puppy chewing on his finger to his girlfriend and her kitten. The sight of Baylee made him remember the most important reason he had gotten her for Angelina. “Oh! I nearly forgot! Baylee has a special present for her mummy.” Angelina, confused, just stared at him. “Check her collar, silly.” He set Zeus on the bed and moved closer to her. He wondered if what he had hidden there had fallen off, and took a moment to search their bed with his eyes. Angelina felt around Baylee’s collar with her fingers. At first, she didn’t find anything, but then her fingertip ran over something. She twisted the collar around to inspect, careful not to hurt her kitten. Once she got it to where she could properly see it, she gasped. There in all its sparkling glory, was a giant diamond engagement ring. “Angelina, in the past year and a half, you have changed my life for the better. I never thought I would make it out of those early days, the darkest days. But then you came back into my life, and I knew Fred had sent you to me. I fall more in love with you every day. And I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Charlie The scent of bacon, the best of smells to wake up to, wafted into Charlie’s room. The biggest of smiles split his face as his fingers searched the bed for his brand new boyfriend. He knew he wouldn’t find him there, after all, why would the smell of bacon be beckoning him, calling him from the kitchen of his flat, if Tyler were still snug in his bed? Sighing happily, Charlie stretched before getting to his feet. He let his nose lead him through his one-bedroom flat, past the waving pictures of family members, and into his tiny kitchen. Tyler stood at the stove, his back to the door. He was busy preparing breakfast for the two of them, and unaware of Charlie’s arrival. That gave Charlie a chance to admire the view he was provided with. “I can feel you ogling me, you know,” Tyler murmured, turning to face Charlie. He wiped his hands on his ‘Kiss me, I’m Irish’ apron. “Hungry?” Charlie could only nod, since the sight of Tyler’s bare chest, barely covered by the apron, had caused him to forget how to form words. Instead, he moved to get himself a cup of tea. “Let me do that,” Tyler squeaked, grabbing the mug from Charlie’s hand before he could protest. “Why don’t you go take a seat and I’ll bring it to you?” Charlie followed Tyler’s suggestion. It was different having someone wait on him, and even more so because he called that someone his first boyfriend. “So what made you decide on that fabulous fashion choice?” He grinned broadly. “Well, it didn’t seem logical to cook bacon shirtless, what with all that popping grease, and my shirt was unavailable at the time. This was the first thing I found.” Suddenly aware, Charlie looked down to confirm that he was indeed wearing Tyler’s shirt. It smelled like him, and he had to resist the urge to sniff it closely. “Oh,” he muttered, blushing slightly. “I forgot I put this on. Do you want it back?” Tyler chuckled lightly. “Maybe after breakfast, babe.” He smirked, returning his attention to the stove. With Tyler’s back to him, Charlie was able to think properly. He couldn’t remember a time when he felt more toward his best friend than he did in that moment. He honestly saw a future with him, and it scared him, because he had never seen a future with anyone he had dated before. Maybe it was because he wasn’t picking the right gender, or maybe it was the connection that he and Tyler shared that had caused his feelings to become so strong. Either way, he wasn’t complaining. “I thought you were going to like my fashion choice,” Tyler muttered, keeping his back turned to hide his frown. “I remember when I gave you this. I was surprised to see that you still had it.” “Of course I still have it. You gave it to me. Though, I didn’t quite understand it at the time. I’m not Irish, and you are definitely not Irish. So what possessed you to pick that one?” Tyler simply shook his head. He didn’t know how to tell Charlie that he picked that particular apron in attempts to show his feelings for him so he kept quiet. Charlie caught on to his silence, and got up from his seat to move closer. “Oh no, mister,” he murmured, creeping up on Tyler’s back. “You don’t get out of it that easily. Tell me why you bought me that apron, or I’m afraid it won’t be protecting you from any of that evil bacon grease anymore.” Tyler felt hands at the knots used to keep the apron in place. He quivered at Charlie’s closeness to his bare back. Biting his lip gently, he closed his eyes and attempted to remember the reason he had just completely forgotten. “Um…” he whispered, his voice barely rising above the sizzling pan before him. “You see . . . Oh, alright, I bought it in hopes that you would do what the first line says.” Charlie took in his words, swallowing them, tasting their meaning. Tyler had given him that apron nearly four years before. And if he had bought it in hopes of receiving a kiss, well then Charlie had to be the biggest idiot that ever lived. Four years, Tyler had waited, four long years of wishing for a kiss that Charlie never gave. Maybe he was overreacting a bit, but Charlie wasn’t too happy with himself for waiting so long to finally admit to himself that he had feelings for his best friend. Tyler had yet to turn around, and Charlie let his hands fall slowly down his back, taking notice at how his motion had given the man before him goose bumps. Smiling satisfactorily, Charlie grinned. “I don’t know why you were so worried about telling me that. It’s normal to want to kiss your best friend . . . isn’t it?” That was enough to get Tyler to face him. “I-” He couldn’t seem to say what had been on his mind for years. So he pulled his wand out of his back pocket and pointed it at a spot above them. Mistletoe sprouted from the ceiling, twinkling as it grew. “Now we have to,” he whispered, suddenly aware of how close Charlie had gotten to him. Charlie didn’t hesitate one minute. He pressed his lips to Tyler’s, savoring in the feeling of skin on skin. This was not Charlie’s first kiss. He wasn’t a eunuch, and had been out with a few girls before, but had never found the one for him. But the emotion that swept through him as their lips connected was something he had never experienced. He was struck but the full brunt of his feelings for the man before him, and was surprised at how deep they had been hidden. “I love you and your insanities,” Charlie muttered when the pair of them broke. Tyler pulled back, sucking in a breath. He had always hoped Charlie would say those words to him, but never expected it would be this soon. “Say it again,” he whispered, staring deep into Charlie’s eyes. “What?” Charlie hadn’t even realized what he had said in the first place. He had been so caught up in to moment, that his true feelings were able to break free. “What you just said.” Still confused, Charlie murmured, “And what was that?” Tyler had had enough with Charlie’s little dance. It took all of his power not to shake the answer out of him. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, even if only just the slightest bit, Tyler growled, “Damn it, Charlie, don’t play around with me. Do you have real, honest feelings for me? Do you . . . Do you love me?” His eyes shone with the emotion he struggled to keep in check. Charlie bit his lip. He hadn’t expected having to make the confession this soon in their relationship. He had hoped to give it at least a few weeks, but now that it was out in the open, hanging in the air before them, he was glad. “Yes, Tyler, I think I do love you. I think I always have. I just didn’t admit it to myself until very recently.” Charlie didn’t get to say anything more, for Tyler had wrapped him in a bear hug, nearly squeezing the life out of him. “I love you too, Charlie,” he whispered against his shoulder. Pulling back, the smile that lit up his face was magnetic. “I knew you had it in you, mate. Why do you think I stuck around all these years? Now that that is settled, how about we have some breakfast?” Charlie nodded, dazed, not completely sure of what had happened, but knowing that it was a good thing. The pair of them spent the rest of their morning smiling at each other, and getting ready to go to the Burrow for Christmas dinner. ~addy
