Mother helpless as uncle rapes niece Staff Reporter Friday, May 30, 2014 - 08:00 News A14-year-old girl from the village of Onawa, Oshitayi outside Ondangwa has been admitted in the Onandjokwe Lutheran hospital after allegedly being repeatedly raped by her own uncle. Jason Amon, 48, who is employed as a security guard at Otaala Combined school where the young girl also attends school in the fourth grade, drunkenly came home Tuesday last week around midnight. The girl, her blind mother Mathilde Vatilifa and her two other siblings were already asleep. Amon who also resides in the same homestead with his own wife and their four children is said to have come from the village cuca shops where he and his wife had spent the whole afternoon and evening drinking. “He came calling at my daughter and said, “Today is today”, I am willing to do what am going to do and will go to jail for it.” According to her the girl went outside, and after some time she started screaming. “Me not being able to see, I called out to her and asked her to return to bed and that was when she told me that Amon had forcefully penetrated her private parts,” said Vatilifa. The young girl went back to bed where she tried to sleep with her mother. According to Vatilifa, “He came back in the morning and said it is not enough, he was not done. That was when I fought back, but he overpowered me and carried her outside into the bushes where he once again continued raping her.” In the wake of the incident Vatilifa kept silent and has not told anyone about what had happened to her daughter. It was only two days later when the teachers at the school noticed that something strange was going on as the girl cried in pain when sitting and was not walking properly, that the story came to light. They then took her to hospital. Only then a case was opened against Amon and he was arrested. He appeared in the Ondangwa Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and the case was postponed to 12 June. He was remanded in custody.
