Mount Pleasant commissioners approve $2.4 million budget Mount Pleasant commissioners approved the budget for the upcoming fiscal year at their monthly meeting on Monday. The fiscal year 2014-15 budget is $2,417,033 and reduces spending about by $66,000 without raising the property tax rate, according to the budget document. Commissioners unanimously approved the budget. No one spoke at a public hearing before the vote. The only hang-up with the document is a requested rate increase in the Mount Pleasant Rural Fire District tax -- from 8.3 cents to 9.75 cents to cover the loss of a fire staffing grant. The fire department in the past used the grant to keep three fulltime employees working 24/7. The tax increase would raise an expected $43,000, which would cover the position, as well as the inflationary costs of insurance, workers compensation and other expenses.
