Mr. Richard Lee Sumpter, 44, of Steve Watts Drive, Taylorsville passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Gordon’s Hospice House in Statesville. Mr. Sumpter was born November 14, 1969 in Caldwell County. Mr. Sumpter had worked at Window World Inc. in North Wilkesboro as maintenance manager. He also had been an electrician for 25 years. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and a trustee on the church council. He was a veteran of Army National Guard. He was a classic car enthusiast, supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and was a former member of the Alexander County Rescue Squad. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law Arnold Barnette. Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Arnetta B. Sumpter of the home; father, Dale Killian and wife, Cassie, of Iredell County; three daughters, Taylor Sumpter of Taylorsville, Anna Marie Sumpter and Jessica Keith Sumpter of the home; special daughter, Christina Gonzalez of Taylorsville; mother-in-law Brenda Barnette of Taylorsville; sister, Andrea Austin (Darin) of Taylorsville; half-sister, Candice Killian of Statesville; two brothers, Rodney Hollifield of Taylorsville, Scott Echerd (Cherie) of Lenoir; granddaughter, Riley Grace Moose of Taylorsville; sister-in-law Argena Barnette and fiancee, Joey Sweet, of Taylorsville; beloved dog, Camaro; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and extended family of Window World and Green Mountain Park Resort camping family. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Salem Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ray Ohlendorf will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Adams Funeral Home.
