Mthembu finally an Amakhosi player 2014-06-20 KAIZER Chiefs have finally signed striker Siphelele Shaka Zulu Mthembu, six years after losing him to rivals Orlando Pirates in a bitter battle for his signature. Mthembu, who has suddenly become one of the most wanted players in the top flight after a storming season with Platinum Stars in the last campaign, has committed himself to a two-year contract at Naturena. While Chiefs boss Bobby Motaung was reluctant to confirm the signing of the 27-year-old striker, insiders told Sowetan Mthembu was seen in Naturena this week. Stars coach Allan Freese yesterday said it was always going to be difficult to hold on to Mthembu - who was also wanted by big spenders Mamelodi Sundowns, among others - after Chiefs made a sudden move for the player last month.
