Music News ! Journey, Steve Miller Band Lead Hot Tours With Summer Run ! Journey and the Steve Miller Band take the top ranking in the weekly tally of Hot Tours with the final box office stats reported from their summertime trek through North America. The veteran rock bands joined forces in mid-May to co-headline an 11-week tour, playing primarily at outdoor amphitheaters. With a handful of arenas and a fair date added to the mix, the bands stopped in 39 cities during the run that featured Tower of Power as opening act. Landing on this Hot Tours report are 15 concerts from July and August that grossed more than $12.3 million from 196,354 sold seats. The tour, produced by Live Nation, ran through Aug. 2, closing with a sellout crowd of 13,583 in Irvine, Calif. at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. The tour’s summer schedule is over, but all three bands will reunite to play one make-up date on Sept. 10 in Chicago, a performance originally set for July 12 that had to be rescheduled due to bad weather. The co-headliners launched their tour on May 15 at Sleep Train Amphitheatre in the San Diego suburb of Chula Vista. Among the 39 dates on the itinerary, the top grosser was the second show of the run, the May 16 performance at the Hollywood Bowl. Sales at the Los Angeles-area amphitheater totaled $1.3 million from a packed house of 16,510 fans. The highest attendance was logged at White River Amphitheatre in the Seattle metropolitan area. The Auburn, Wash. venue hosted a sellout crowd of 18,538 for a performance on July 19. Overall box office revenue from the Journey/Steve Miller Band summer tour topped $29 million from more than half a million sold tickets. Source: Billboard Magazine
