An Entertaining Evening of Popular Classics with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Daniel Walshaw Soloists: Boris Kerimov (cello) Njabulo Madlala (baritone) Christopher Duigan (piano) The hills of Kloof will resound with the magnificent sound of music from the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra when The Marriott Classics in Kloof takes to the stage on Friday 4 April. Presented by Christopher Duigans MUSIC REVIVAL in association with the KwaZulu-Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and generously sponsored by Marriott, Classics in Kloof sees South Africas premier orchestra and featured soloists perform a dazzling evening of music. The orchestra will play under the baton of young American conductor, Daniel Walshaw. In response to many requests for a concert-hall performance in the region by the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, Classics in Kloof in the St Agnes Church Auditorium will certainly provide local audiences with a wonderful opportunity to experience the acoustic magic and excitement of a 60-piece professional orchestra in full flight. Their programme includes popular favourites and orchestra show-pieces: In the Steppes of Central Asia by Borodin, Finlandia by Sibelius and the Overture to Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss II. Soloists for the evening include the highly acclaimed London-based baritone Njabulo Madlala. Born in KwaMashu, Durban, Madlala is currently carving out a major career in the UK. He was recently named Standard Bank Young Artist for Music in 2014. His performance in Kloof follows on a string of major national performances including those at the recent Starlight Classics in Cape Town. Madlala sings arias from Bizets Carmen and Rossinis Barber of Seville. Star-cellist and Principal Cello of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra, Russian-born Boris Kerimov, plays the haunting Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch. Based on the Jewish chant of the same name this extraordinary and powerful music has become closely associated with Kerimov through his intensely lyrical performances. Christopher Duigan will once again be featured at the piano in this performance. Playing Mozarts seldom-performed Rondo for Piano and Orchestra in A major K. 386 Duigan, a Steinway artists and KZN resident, is acknowledged as one of the countrys foremost concert pianists . The charming work, left incomplete by Mozart, was reconstructed from a number of single autograph pages of the manuscript that have appeared in various collections and from published arrangements of the work. This spectacular evening seeks to capture a sophisticated mood. A light-hearted touch will see the inclusion of celebrated Strauss orchestral numbers Tratsch-Tratcsh Polka and Radetsky March. Audience members are invited to dress elegantly to set the tone for the evening. Refreshments will be available beforehand and at interval. · Tickets for The Marriott Classics in Kloof are available from WEBTICKET webtickets.co.za and also from Katey at St Agnes Church Office Tel. 031 764 2037 or email [email protected] · Tickets prices are from R140.
