Muslims’ Love and Reverence for The Beloved - TopicsExpress

Muslims’ Love and Reverence for The Beloved Prophet Sallallahu Alaihe wa Sallam --Numan Ahmad (Part 1) One of the most bewildering things for non-Muslims, especially in the West, is the utter less than zero tolerance of Muslims for anything that could be deemed as disrespectful towards the Prophet Muhammad (saw). What makes it more puzzling is the generally somber reaction a non-Muslim would receive if they made fun of a Muslim’s background or heritage when it’s taken in relation to the reaction received when it’s about the Prophet Muhammad (saw). In a culture where nothing is sacred, and everything is open game to be ridiculed, the permissibility of all of which falls under the banner of freedom of expression, the “extreme” Muslim reaction to any derogatory remarks about the Prophet Muhammad (saw) is difficult to comprehend. So, one frequently asked question by the non-Muslims all over the world is why the Muslims love their Prophet (saw) so much and why they become so much infuriated even in the slightest disrespect towards Him. This question becomes more frequent and asked every now and then after the release of a defamatory movie in YouTube by a Jews named Sam Basel when Muslims were protesting fire and brimstone against this hate monger. I will try to explain this question on the holy occasion of Miladun Nabi (saw) which is an expression of our love to our Beloved Prophet (saw), the beloved of Allah and the reason for all creation. Muslims have been commanded by Allah (swt) to obey, respect and love him. Love for the Prophet is a measure of our faith and inner conviction. Our faith is only completed and perfected when our love for the Prophet exceeds our love for anything in this world, including our own lives. Almighty Allah says in the holy Quran chapter 33 verse 6: “The Prophet is preferable for the believers even to their own selves.” It is a firmly established principle in Islam that our faith is as good as our love for the Prophet (saw). Love of the Prophet (saw) breathes life into our practice of religion. Without it our religion is reduced to an empty adherence to a set of trivial rules and empty rituals. The Prophet (saw) said: “None of you will believe until I am more beloved to him than his children, his father and all people.” It is difficult to explain how love can be the main source of inspiration of a religion followed worldwide by almost 2 Billion people but let me try. We love Him because He showed us how to love our Creator and fellow human beings. Through Him we got Quran, the final book of guidance and a cure for all diseases of our heart. He showed us not only how to pray but also how to live, how to eat, how to dress, how to brush our teeth and even how to cleanse ourselves. He showed us how we should deal with our friends and our enemies and how to take care of our neighbours, orphans and families. He showed us how to make peace and the etiquette of war. In short He taught us all we needed to know. We thank Allah (swt) for giving Him as a gift, “Indeed Allah has honoured the Believers by sending unto them a messenger of their own who recites unto them His revelations and purifies them and teaches them the Scripture and wisdom, although before (Him) they were in error manifest.” (3:164) To follow Prophet Muhammad’s (saw) tradition in our daily life is the condition Allah (swt) put to receive His love and forgiveness. Quran says “Say: (O Muhammad to mankind) If you love Allah then follow Me (i.e. Muhammad (saw)), Allah (swt) will love you and forgive your sins.” (3:31) [The writer is a Lecturer in English at North East University Bangladesh] https://facebook/numan.ahmad.106
