Must admit I called it wrong this time. Did not expect BJP to win hands down in this fashion. I had thought that Congress would be returned, but with a reduced majority on the back of the social security measures it had initiated. That since MMS would retire. that RG would take over as President from his mother and that Chidambaram might be called upon to take over as PM. But apparently Chidambaram had long understood the dynamics better and opted out of the race altogether. Well, the BJPs victory now puts an end to further political bickering across the party divide. They have a simple majority all by themselves. They need nobody else. And unlike during the Coffin Scam they now have nobody else to blame. Also I am first a liberal and a democrat. I might not like the BJP. But that is my right iin a free democracy. At the same time I will also be the first to give the new dispensation the full opportunity to prove its credentials. To that extent I go with HJ Blackhams thesis on Political Discipline in a Free Society.
