My 19th (or 20th, Ive lost count) marathon was an adventure. Marathon itself was unexceptional. I knew I was undertrained and the lack of training miles caught up to me after mile 17. Did a pretty ugly walk-run for the rest just trying to average a sub-10 minute pace. Missed by a little bit. Then pulled one of my patented Anny moves and tripped over the finish mat, landing on my forehead and elbows. Was immediately helped into a wheelchair and taken to medical tent. Service was awesome - they brought me my checked bag, finisher shirt and medal. Then told me the cut on my forehead needed stitches and Id need to get to the ER three blocks away. Awesome Audrey Fincher and Beanie Bernard Kelly walked me there while Lark Dunham and Cate went back to the hotel, packed our bags and checked us out. The hospital people were great - took me right away (and gave me 13 stitches), much to the consternation of of a really obnoxious woman who kept yelling that she had been beat up and needed to be seen immediately. Didnt seem to have a mark on her and they said they would call security if she didnt stop being abusive. My guess is a drug deal gone bad. Then Audrey met this wonderful couple who volunteered to drive us to the airport so Beanie left to get his bags from a different hotel. At airport we got dropped at wrong gate, though, and had to take two trains to the right terminal where we finally met Lark and Cate and went to security. Where I didnt get through the screening bc Id forgot to take my race bib off and the safety pins made them suspicious. Had to wait TEN minutes for a female security officer who let me take my sweatshirt off, looked at the pins and said I could go. My flight was already boarded so I did an OJ Simpson dash to the gate, got on board and began to write this, which I will post when we land. The bottom line is Im fine but may just have passed Andrea Keane-myers in klutziness.
