My 3-word movie #review for #JohnWick: Keanu.Is.Back! Oh, where to begin...my heart is still racing from 1 hour, 36 minutes of non-stop action. And when I say action, read violence; bloodshed; - you the idea. It is not for the feint of heart. Definitely no chick-flick for a normal woman. I, however, am not one of those. Nor, from the sounds of the theater I was in, were the other women attending. Keanu of course plays John Wick, a mysterious retired hit man, who we see in the first scenes has lost his wife, played in flashbacks by Bridget Moynahan (Geez. Married Mr. Big (Chris Noth) in SATC and now Keanu? Some girls have all the luck..) But I digress. He is, of course raw and devastated, as she has JUST died in the beginning of the film (played in flashback). A puppy is sent to him with a note written by his wife before she died, telling him he needed something to love. Tender moments, here as I cried with John as he read her note. Its no secret that early-on (via the trailer) his dog is killed by intruders - who werent exactly strangers. He digs up his guns and bullets and seeks vengeance. With a capital V and then some. The dude hes after asks his father (who used to work with him) What is he, the bogeyman? No, his father tells him. Hes the one they send for to kill the bogeyman. Reflexes. Oh.my.God.- John Wick has em, times 100. He is GOOD at what he does, and what he does is leave a very, very large string of bodies in his wake. Some people will criticize the killing of the dog. (It isnt gratuitous, though) but that is the key to the vengeance John seeks, and serves to make the audience much more sympathetic to a man who doesnt blink to kill a dozen men. He is a sympathetic character, and you feel for him. Do not analyze this film. It is meant to be just what it is: A lot of action and great entertainment for fans of Keanu and this genre.
