My 3rd headcannon for IFHCWRIWE! Its a Percy Jackson one, no spoilers I peer into the window of the candy shop, my stomach growling at the sight of all the sweets. I shrug my bag onto my other shoulder, feeling the weight of my mortal hammer and my few other belongings. Other than the clothes I’m wearing, I have one other shirt and a jacket. Ever since I ran away from home I’ve been wandering the streets, fighting off monsters and scavenging for food. If you’re wondering why me, a 7 year old girl, ran away from home and chose to live in the streets then the answer is that they thought I was a freak. Monsters attacked and they said I was putting them in danger. Every night spiders would torture me and my step mom never believed me when I told her. That house, that family, they were never really mine. They never wanted me. I rub at my eyes, angrily forcing back the tears. I’m fine all alone, I don’t need them. I don’t need anyone. Taking a step back, I try and make out the name of the shop. It’s hard, every time I try to read something the letters seem to float into the air. Eventually I put together the words ‘Sweet on America’. I glance back into the candy shop at the rows and rows of sugary foods. My stomach seems to ache as I look in at all the food, longing for just one piece. Suddenly I notice one of the workers looking at me. She has curly brown hair and a kind face. A boy – her son - stands beside her, he seems about my age, and he tugs on his mother’s arm so that she leans down. After he whispers something into her ear, she smiles down at him lovingly, nods, and hands him something. I turn away unable to bear the sight. I hate to admit it, but I feel jealous. No one’s ever looked at me the way that boy’s mother looked at him. I’m too lost in my own thoughts to notice the boy walk up behind me. “Hi” he says. I spin around, instinctively reaching for my backpack, but I freeze when I see him up close. He has ruffled black hair and mesmerizing sea green eyes. “What do you want?” I ask warily. He doesn’t seem to notice my suspicion. “I’m Percy” he smiles. What’s your name?” I eye him for a moment before answering. “That’s none of your business” I say sharply. His smile melts away and he stares at the ground, unsuccessfully trying to hide the hurt look on his face. I feel kind of bad. I know he’s not a monster, but he’s not completely human either. In the months I’ve been on my own I’ve learnt how to smell supernatural beings. This boy is something. “Well, um, my mom and I were wondering if you wanted some candy” he mumbles. He holds out his hand offering me some kind of candy bar. The wrapper’s blue. I’m about to tell him I’m not hungry when my stomach starts to grumble. “You’re hungry” he notices. “Take it”. I step forward and take the candy from his hand. “Thanks” I say grudgingly. Percy’s about to go back into the shop when I stop him. “Percy” I say hesitantly. He turns back to face me, his hair falling into his eyes. “Annabeth” I tell him. “My name’s Annabeth”. His face breaks into a contagious grin. “Annabeth” he repeats. “Nice name”. After Percy heads back inside I sit on a nearby bench and rip open the candy wrapper. I can’t really describe how it tastes, it’s so wonderful, and it’s gone all too soon. Feeling much better, I stand and start to walk away. As I pass the candy store, I take one last look, and this time I’m not looking at the candy. Hope you guys liked that! Any feedback?
