My Dad had a saying: Son, dont slam your dick in the door. From: The Tennessean Bobby Bones expresses dismay at CMA snub Country radio host Bobby Bones took to Twitter on Wednesday to voice his displeasure at not being nominated for a CMA Award. Bones, whose syndicated program, “The Bobby Bones Show,” has attracted more than 3 million weekly listeners in more than 80 Clear Channel media markets, said he was the victim of refusing to play the political games necessary to garner a nomination. Bones was a Top 40 pop radio personality before last year when he moved to Nashville to launch his country show and began broadcasting from WSIX-FM. “It’s not ‘injustice,’ ” Bones tweeted after learning he didn’t receive a nomination on Wednesday morning. “I simply don’t play the political games the format is known for. “Going to need a lot of old people in this industry to retire or die before the Nashville ‘guard’ lets something new get recognized.” The nominees for CMA National Broadcast Media Personality are “The Big D and Bubba Show,” “Country Countdown USA” and “zMax Racing Country.” “I somewhat expected it,” Bones told The Tennessean by email. “But I have to voice my displeasure. We’re the biggest morning show in the country, killing the other stations in Nashville. I have the biggest countdown show in the country and have changed the culture of country radio in a simple 18 months. So, it’s obviously political. I got beat by a NASCAR show.” CMA described the nomination process in a news release on Wednesday. “CMA members who are full-time, on-air personalities and CMA member radio stations in the United States and Canada were eligible to enter,” CMA explained in the release. “The entries are judged by a panel of distinguished broadcast professionals, representing all market sizes and regions. “An aggregate score of the first round of judging and the second round, which is done by a different panel of judges, determines the winners. The international accounting firm of Deloitte & Touche LLP tabulates scoring by the judges.” “Awards in the end aren’t anything but dust collectors,” Bones said. “I’m in the game to change the culture of the format and do lots of great things for people while I’m at it. And if I can make someone’s ride to work a little easier with laughter, that’s perfect too. I’m not upset at not being nominated, I’m upset with the antiquated system.” WUSY in Chattanooga, which is a finalist for small-market station of the year, was the only Tennessee country station nominated for an award this year. In February, Bones was the co-winner of the Academy of Country Music’s on-air personality of the year. Reach Nate Rau at 615-259-8094 and on Twitter @tnnatera
