My Father was in the education profession and I have always had - TopicsExpress

My Father was in the education profession and I have always had immense respect for those who did so (yeah, I am talking about Millie Wood Glenn, Stephanie Borns, Lorna Griffin, Mike McCollough, Mirhan Mihran Aroian, Karol Ann Hoeffner, and others). I believe that after World War II that this country had an immense advantage over comparable industrial powers and that was mainly because they were located on the battlegrounds of war and they had to focus so much on rebuilding to catch up. This is no longer the case. Even though the United States still spends more money on research and development than any country in the world, our general educational superiority had sputtered. Where once we lead the world in having the least percentage of high school countries, we now are ranked 20th. That is a bad place to be in the Information Age. I heard an interview of the author of "The Smartest Kids in the World" and I was finally able to get a copy and start reading. I am cautiously optimistic that the book will have information that is of assistance in refining our education system. I will keep you posted.
