My Friend, Eddie Adams Jr has found another one...... those tricky local elected officials. HERES WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW---------Friends: The top elected officials in the county (County Commissioners and mayors of plant City, Temple Terrace and Tampa) are moving to execute a hostile takeover of HART. They propose to remove all the citizens appointed to the HART BOARD and replace them with themselves. There are 2 gubernatorial appointees who will remain but they want to jettison all other citizen seats in favor of control by politicians. This is important because HART controls transit projects including funding and planning. These politicians don’t want to have to deal with citizen directors in the process, so they are going to kick them off the board – get them out of the way. Don’t Let Them Take our Citizen Votes!!!! The Hostile Takeover is not a done deal yet!! In the HART Board meeting on Monday, August 4, several citizens spoke in opposition to this hostile takeover. In the Board of County Commissioners meeting last Wednesday, August 6, a number of citizens spoke against the takeover and many others were present to support them. We need to keep the pressure on. The law says they can appoint whomever they wish – including themselves. So, the only thing that can change their minds is political pressure. They need to hear from us – a lot of us. The Policy Leadership Group will meet again this Tuesday, 8/12,2014, at 1:30 PM in the County Center (26th floor). It is likely they will vote on this takeover. They need to hear from us now, and in great numbers. A lot is at stake If they pack the HART Board with politicians, the citizens will lose their voice in the future of transit in Hillsborough County. It’s as simple as that. Your help is needed. Please email or call all seven County Commissioners and tell them: 1. You don’t want a HART Board packed with elected officials. 2. We need to keep the citizen seat we have on the board 3. Tell them you oppose their takeover of the HART Board. Please forward this to your email lists. You know, we do not have to look very far to find a transit board made up mostly of politicians. The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority over in Pinellas County is made up of mostly politicians. They are spending $800,000 of the peoples money to promote the one cent tax increase they have on their ballot this November. And last week, they announced they have sent back $354,000 of grant money from Dept. of Homeland Security because they mis-used those funds to promote their proposed one cent sales tax increase for a train. We dont need or want a political board at HART. We need the balanced board we have where citizens, elected officials and transit professionals come together to get the best result for our county.
