My MRI results are in! The radiology clinic does not diagnose so - TopicsExpress

My MRI results are in! The radiology clinic does not diagnose so they say appears to be type of things and its up to Dr. F to say officially. That said, I have what appears to be a 2.5mm microadenoma on the right side of my pituitary. Cushings tumors are typically very small microadenomas, so this finding is supportive of the possibility of Cushings. The only way to diagnostically state that this small tumor is actually releasing too much ACTH (which then affects the adrenals which then release too much cortisol which is what causes the symptoms that are like those I have) is by verifying that there is too much cortisol in my body with these body fluid tests Im doing. But again, it can be hard to locate or catch these levels when theyre high because they can fluctuate. So finding something on the MRI, while still not diagnostic, is good because it provides a strong suggestion that theres a potential--which encourages the idea that continued testing is necessary, even if youre currently getting normal results back. If there was no visible adenoma at all, while it wouldnt be COMPLETELY definitive there was no chance of a tumor (they are so small they can be hidden on an MRI or Cushings can still be caused by tumors in other areas or in the adrenals themselves,) it would reduce the likelihood of the possibility of Cushings greatly because 70-80% of Cushings cases are due to these small adenomas. That said, 10% or so of the population has benign adenomas on their pituitary that dont cause Cushings-like symptoms at all, but the fact that I have all of the symptoms, have had some high or borderline high biochemical results already -and- have what appears to be a typically Cushings-sized pituitary tumor sounds highly suggestive! Im very, very, very glad for these results. I dont really like going on I feel theres something wrong in my gut so its nice to be able to say I feel theres something wrong IN MY LABS!
