My Messianic sister-of-heart asked me recently, You know he wasnt born in a Manger. Right? What good Jewish family would birth near animal feces. They wouldnt. It just wouldnt be done. Im so thankful for that question and statement this year. It really made me think. My thoughts: The Bible says it. I believe it. You know what, though? I think thats what Jesus life was all about. He spent his whole earth walk doing what any good Jewish man wouldnt do. He touched the outcasts--that was huge. Outcasts, like the woman with the issue of blood, had to live away from everyone. If they touched you, you would be defiled. Hence, she touched him and he felt his power leave him. Do you have any idea what it took for her to speak up, in front of the crowd, when he asked who had touched him? He ate with those that any good Jew would have nothing to do with. He did so much more--he even overturned tables in the temple. Why? Because the good Jews were missing something. He lived the example. I *do* believe that he was born around feces. Why? 1. Ive been in labor. I dont care where you are, you dont have the luxury of finding where any good Jew would deliver when youve been turned away and birth time is NOW. You birth where you are and where you can. 2. Abomination is defined as The stench that makes someone turn away and gag. Our sins smell like that feces. When we come to him dirty and needing to be cleansed by his Word, we smell so bad that He needs to turn and gag. But he doesnt. He sticks with us, and cleans us up. 3. His cross murder was at the trash area outside the city. I bet that stunk, too. In the end, it demonstrated to me that God knows: Life stinks Life is crappy And he comes to us, in the middle of all of our --sorry, but it works here and must be used-- all of our shit and he says, Im here. You dont have to clean up, first. You dont have to be the good... Christian, Jew, whatever... Life is full of crap. Youre sometimes surrounded by it. And, even in this; even when life stinks; even when you feel filthy, I am here and I will never leave you nor forsake you. Im not afraid of any of it. So, yeah. I believe he was born in the midst of abominations. I do believe that it was dirty and the stench of sin wasnt a shock to him. The stench of sin had been rising from us to him for a long, long time. So he came to clean out the barn. He was rejected in birth. He was rejected in death. His life was a miracle.
