My Surgery: One Month Later June 3rd, 2:55pm, I’m freaking out. I was sitting in the surgical waiting room since 10am and the whole time I was thinking, “I feel fine today, I’m going to walk out.” I was literally 5 minutes from putting my clothes back on when they came to take me into the operating room. At this point, I would prefer it all to have been a big blur. Panic set in, my heart began to race, and I became hyper aware of everything. I said bye to Patty, and remember crying briefly on her shoulder. Next I said I had to use the restroom, so I hopped off and ran in. I was stalling. I ran back to Patty and told her that I loved her. I got back on the bed, and they wheeled me into the room. I heard every conversation happening around me. The 3 nurses talking about what they would be doing later. The doctors chatting about the procedure. I saw every detail. Boxes of surgical tools. The Laproscopic Robot! The lights. The beeping. Next thing I know, they hook me up to a heart monitor, and my pulse is through the roof. Last thing I remember is one of my surgeons holding my hand, and the anesthesiologist saying he would take care of that. I woke up. Tired, exhausted, sleepy, one of those. I saw Patty and I know everything is ok, or I’m in heaven… The next few days in the hospital were a blur, I literally don’t remember much from my first week. I was there 10 days in total, and I have to say, the doctors, nurses and nurse assistants were AMAZING! Thank you Hackensack University Medical Center One month later: I’m home, still in some pain, but it is surgical pain, NOT DIVERTICULITIS PAIN, which is huge!!! Doctor said I should feel no pain in 2-3 months, so I am really looking forward to that. I’m looking forward to living pain free! Just wanted to say thanks for all the texts, calls, and visits. They meant a lot while I was in the hospital and while I’m home. Love you guys!
