My Top 5 devotional picks! 1 Minute Devotional (Wednesday, January 26, 2011) (I did not preach this week so I will be sharing about the subject of offence.) Text: 2 Tim. 2:24-26 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, 25In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; 26And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. An offense is the bait of Satan to pull you, the believer, into his trap. Paul confirms that in this text. What Paul is saying is “those who are in opposition, those who are offended with one another, are taken captive of Satan to do his will.” There are two types of offended people, those who have been treated unfairly and those who believe they have been treated unfairly. When you are offended unintentionally it is because you have perceived that you were treated unfairly. You thought someone ignored you. Or they said something to you that you took the wrong way. Then there is the intentional offence. Someone sins against you. We feel justified in our response. We can retaliate, get even, say hurtful things, break off the relationship, and many other things. It is at that point that we justify ourselves into thinking that they were wrong and we were innocent. Therefore we are right in our response to them. Yet after our response we feel bad. It eats away at us. We wonder why. We say “I know I’m right so why do I feel so bad.” It is because our response is not Christ-like. Offenses are temptations to sin. So don’t be captured by “the snare of the devil” but respond as Christ and His Word instruct us to. Pastor Larry Please feel free to share. Scriptures are from the King James Version unless otherwise noted. Daily reading: 1 Samuel 16 - 31 Pray: That I will be made aware of Satan’s devises by the Holy Spirit. If you do not want to receive the "1 Minute Devotional" please let me know and you will be removed from the distribution list. This series of messages were adapted from John Bevere’s study “The Bait of Satan” which I highly recommend.
