My Writings and Daily Meditations Speak when you’re angry and you’ll make the best speech you’ll ever regret. –Lawrence J. Peter I lived in constant regret for most of my life, I said and did things I hold in me to this day. I can still see and hear myself from over 20 years ago, yet I kept right on doing and saying things I knew I neither believed nor wanted to do. It still happens today, it comes from fear, anger and hate of self, and selfishness. It comes from not wanting to be wrong, not wanting to just let things alone. I know a lot of you can relate to this one, you’re mad and arguing about something, anything. You know you’re about to say something you’ll regret, it hurts you already and you haven’t even said or did whatever it is. Yet it fly’s right out of your mouth anyways, every bit of my heart has told me to STFU up you’re about to go where you shouldn’t be. My basic instinct is to protect me from whatever, it doesn’t matter what it is I am wired just like a wild animal. When defense is my constant thought I don’t have much of a chance to think things through, to take a look at the whole picture. This for me is more selfishness coming into play. At any given moment I am standing at the center of the universe for me as an object, but that does not make me the center of the universe. Learning to respond instead of react is the cure for “foot in mouth disease.” JMM 3/19/14 ©James McKinley My-Writings-and-Daily-Meditations 2014
