My annual music of the year list: First Aid Kit - Stay - TopicsExpress

My annual music of the year list: First Aid Kit - Stay Gold Band of the year, who I only discovered this year, with sweet voices and strong lyrics doing country-tinged folk. While not from this album (or year), Emmylou is song of the year. And this performance - remarkable. https://youtube/watch?v=EwH79H9qnUs Bohren & Der Club Of Gore ?– Piano Nights Another cheat (from last year really), but this David Lynch/Angelo Badalamenti saxophone dream is exceptional. https://youtube/watch?v=yiBsJPEDJeg Current 93 - I am the last of alll the field that fell. Graced by Antony and Nick Cave, and slightly blighted by John Zorn, the lyics are so personal as the be utterly obscure, but this is still a great listen. And David Tibet is still my greatest inspiration. https://youtube/watch?v=MjI7GJfFiQs Death Vessel - Island Intervals Having made 2 stunning albums and then falling silent, this colaboration with Sigur Ros exceeds expectation. This is the best song on it: https://youtube/watch?v=-G7EhJRtN3Q Her Name Is Calla - Navigator Exquisite sleeve led me to listen to this deep, rich, complex and varied band. Totally overlooked and under valued. https://youtube/watch?v=YXMR2KcYqfk His Name Is Alive Not a 70s guitar person personally, but after track 1 I found some riches, specifically this one. Still, one of the most challenging and interesting bunch around. https://soundcloud/londonlondoncompany/his-name-is-alive-african Iceage - Plowing the field of love Maturing from early Joy Divison to early Crime and the City Solution, but there are worse influences to have, not enough Crime and are great fun for goth listening pleasure. https://youtube/watch?v=EagCKe2Au8E King Creosote - King of Scotland The Scots know how to make music. Not sure how I lived without noticing him for so long. https://youtube/watch?v=FG-PBM7BmMQ Lana Del Rey - Ultraviolence Because the album was great and Lana is Divinity. https://youtube/watch?v=rJABBmAMXnY Silver Servants Glen Johnson (Piano Magic) guests on a This Mortal Coil-esque essemble; this song is so visually arresting. https://soundcloud/second-language/2-a-crow-will-remember-your Owl John Most easily missed release, the first solo album from Frightened Rabbit singer. https://soundcloud/frightened-rabbit/owl-john-red-hand Perfume Genius I have been saying he is a genius for years. https://youtube/watch?v=FfUzs4NDa64 Snowird One Cocteau Twin (not Elizabeth), fox and mice imagery; magical if not very original. https://youtube/watch?v=9dITvuBbZqg Sol Invictus - Once Upon A Time Dark god Tony Wakeford on top form as ever. https://youtube/watch?v=lXGFVOpMAe8 Jeffrey Lee Pierce Project I miss Jeffrey. Third compilation of JLP series of covers is back to the high quality of the first. And each feature Nick Cave & Debbie Harry dueting, which is orgasmic. https://youtube/watch?v=a4QC6SvoXzE Vashti Bunyan Such delicacy. https://youtube/watch?v=nPXj1hlHuTs The Wytches I saw these dudes live, not expecting what I got. Such cool fun for a change. https://youtube/watch?v=W9FQ7eMV-CQ
