My big palomino gelding Dibby sharing some lunch with his uncle - TopicsExpress

My big palomino gelding Dibby sharing some lunch with his uncle Mambo today. Mambo ( Nights-of -Gold ) is a stallion and we like to keep the stallions socialised - they seem to enjoy having a gelding around the stallion yards so they can have physical contact with another horse. When there is a mare in season nearby, they can rush the fence at Dibby in what looks like a savage attack, but Dibby calls their bluff and he just stands relaxed at the rails staring at them and the stallion will pull up, flick his ears forward and start to lick him. Right now, there are quite a few visiting mares in the mare section only 40 metres from the stallions and they are still very happy to have Dibby around their yards. I have noticed some small nip marks on the stallions from Dibby, but hes never had a mark from them apart from lick marks. If you have been able to have a stallion from a young age and have been able to socialise them like this, it does seem to make for a settled stallion... but I know its not possible for everyone.
