My brother, Omini Ubi, has confirmed that employment at the Institute of Technology, Ugep, is based on merit, to the extent that those who appeared for interview with letters from politicians were turned down by the incorruptible recruiters. What actually struck me is that the majority of employees are from Western Nigeria. How on earth did Cross Riverians fail to qualify for employment in a school located in their midst? The truth must be told that our institutions of higher learning have lost their standard due to corruption and are producing graduates who cannot compete even in their locality, much less the nation at large. Until we tackle corruption in our ivory towers, our schools will be graduating generations of incompetent people.
