My brother, sister, mother and extended family thank all of our Facebook friends for the literally HUNDREDS of messages of support and prayer. We are deeply grateful that you have lifted Mom up in prayer and that you have offered words of encouragement and love and hope. Every single one of your messages has been read and appreciated - and we have shared them with Mom. I will print out ALL of them for her to have as a lasting record of what you have done to help us through this difficult time. Late this afternoon, after stops at the bank, pharmacy and grocery store, I got Mom home where she is now resting. Her oxygen unit was delivered before we arrived home - thank goodness. And - my sister brought a home-cooked dinner (and several other meals for the next few days) and we are beyond happy that Mom is home and safe and warm. We are going to take turns spending time with her so she has supervision and care while she recovers. And there is a lot of recovery ahead - not just from the carotid artery surgery, but from the congestive heart failure that was brought on by the huge infusion of IV fluids that were needed to return her blood pressure to normal. She has breathing exercises to do and in a couple of days, I plan to start short neighborhood walks with her to build up her strength and lung capacity. There will be doctor appointments and other things activities - but we are prepared and Mom is ready to do all that is necessary to recover and get on with her active life. The goal is to get her off the oxygen as soon as possible. For now, the home unit and the portable tanks will allow her some mobility and the chance to maximize her healing. I hope she sleeps straight through tonight. It has been an incredibly HEAVY six days! God bless you all for all the support and love.
