My daughter is not a gift from God. She was created out of love. Her full genetic makeup comes straight from us, her parents. She’s got my husband’s cute nose, stubbornness and hilarious sense of humor. She’s got my lips, ears, impulsiveness and, quite frankly, my princess tendencies (especially the love for shopping, lipgloss & shoes) She is who she is—not an angel, or a divine gift, or anything other than a flesh-and-blood little girl who loves singing and dancing and twirling around the room. We are creating the next generation of kids, and there is a wave of young agnostics, atheists, free thinkers and humanists rising up through the ranks who will, hopefully, lower our nation’s religious fever. There is no other more pure love than that of our creation, I am so enamoured with being her mother. Erek Clementson
