My dear friends, who have A LOT going on, super busy, launching - TopicsExpress

My dear friends, who have A LOT going on, super busy, launching new businesses, juggling careers and parenthood, writing books, creating big projects...I need your input for my research and a new book. What happens when you hit complete overwhelm and find yourself stressed out beyond the limit? How do you cope? What are the things you use to balance yourself out? What are your escape mechanisms? I will begin with my example: When I am very stressed and overwhelmed, number ONE thing I do is I ISOLATE. I struggle with reaching out to others. I disappear into my darkness. I know all the research about how simply talking through the anxiety of overwhelm with a trusted friend helps to move through it faster. BUT still, it is hard for me to do. It is like I am licking my wounds in quiet, keeping the shield of Ive got it together. Anyone else does that? Number 2 is NUMBING. It used to be a HUGE issue. Numbing comes in all shapes and sizes. Even workaholism can be a form of detachment from dealing with deeper emotional issues. Brene Browns work made a life changing impact on me, because it helped me to understand the difference between numbing and true self-care/comfort. The thing is that we CANNOT selectively numb emotion. With every difficult emotion we numb, we also numb our access to all the positive feelings of joy, happiness, etc. Brene speaks about how important it is to create your comfort list and memorize it. Better else, print a few out and put it in the places in the house where you most likely to be tempted to numb (on a fridge, by TV, by computer, etc). Number 3. Making sudden extreme decisions out of exhaustion and desperation. I could win a medal for this one. Being an extremist, I would be one of those over night reformists of my life. All or nothing approach. Some of those life decisions were the leaps of faith require for me to take for my expansion, and some were very poorly thought through actions that ended up taking me further away from my goals. The price to pay for rushed decisions was too high at times. PLEASE, give your feedback on how you deal or dealt with big overwhelm, your coping strategies that work/didnt work. What helps you to restore your energy reserves when you find yourself depleted? You can either comment on this blog or pm me. Love you all, Katerina.
