My editor friend Terri Bischoff asked me for a list of novels/collection of short stories related to the forced removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans for a FB book group she belongs to. I was thinking that this might be an important list to add to my website. Heres a partial list. What else can you add -- and FICTION, people (although Yoshiko Uchidas work may be autobiographical, but I dont care): Hisaye Yamamotos SEVENTEEN SYLLABLES Wakako Yamauchis SONGS MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME Toshio Moris UNFINISHED MESSAGE/YOKOHAMA, CA John Okadas NO-NO BOY Yoshiko Uchidas JOURNEY TO TOPAZ and DESERT EXILE Jeanne Wakatsuki Houstons FAREWELL TO MANZANAR Toshiko Itos ENDURE Barney Shallits SONG OF ANGER: TALES OF TULE LAKE Jon Shirotas LUCKY COME HAWAII and PINEAPPLE WHITE (experiences in Hawaii) And to come very, very soon -- Gene Oishis FOX DRUM BEBOP (The books above are all written by individuals with personal experiences.) Julie Otsukas WHEN THE EMPEROR WAS DIVINE David Gutersons SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS Jamie Fords THE HOTEL ON THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET Cynthia Kadohatas WEEDFLOWER Stewart David Ikedas WHAT THE SCARECROW SAID David Muras FAMOUS SUICIDES OF THE JAPANESE EMPIRE Rahna Reiko Rizzutos WHY SHE LEFT US Julie Shigekunis UNENDING NORA (effect on Sansei) Sophie Littlefields GARDEN OF STONES John Shannons TERMINAL ISLAND Kirk Mitchells BLACK DRAGON I know that there are more, some that came out recently, so hit me with them, Sherry Kanzer, Carolyn Sanwo and Patricia Wakida. Id like to have one for Japanese Canadians --starting with Joy Kogawas OBASAN. So give me some for that category, too. And of course, this experience is reflected in all of the Mas Arai books, but especially STRAWBERRY YELLOW.
