My first love is never far away – serious music (often termed ‘classical music’). Today, while listening to the radio, another extraordinary gem was revealed to me – Mozart’s Adagio and Fugue in C minor, K. 546. Unfamiliar with the opus prior to today, I am reminded that Mozart was the supreme master of form. Utilizing a binary configuration, the adagio is gorgeous with its dark and compelling melody, and his beautifully constructed fugue (an homage to Bach) is a grand labyrinth, gingerly unfolding like a Platonic riddle – divine! Originally written as separate works, with the adagio scored for strings, and the fugue a piano piece for four hands, Mozart’s final scoring is an elegant work for strings. The link below is a version orchestrated for a string symphony (offering a richer and more dramatic rendition) – less than 7 minutes. Like a man’s man, I proudly remain a nerd’s nerd. Enjoy this taste of heaven and remember why Mozart is still revered nearly 225 years after his death. Peace! https://youtube/watch?v=xQz55_Uvbgs
