My friend, Suzanne Kunse and I found a young woman from Lewis & Clark College distraught and crying desperately on the Terwilliger overpass above I-5 late Friday night. We stopped to talk with her to see if we could help. She, of course, wanted us to go away, but we refused seeing how distraught she was and fearing for her safety. Two other students from Lewis & Clark also stopped. They sat on the sidewalk with us refusing to leave. It was touching to see four perfect strangers so concerned about the well-being of this young woman. I will admit that my own experiences around suicide of people I love made me stubborn not to leave her. It took quite a bit of work and a call to the campus security (who summoned a counselor), but the young man from Lewis & Clark was able to calm the woman and convince her to return to campus for some support. Lets look out for each other, friends. We never know when we will be called upon to provide support to someone in need. Have a great, sunny day!
