My friend posted this and it was so good just had to share. Was encouraged by the following this morning and hope it may provide that for whomever reads it .... "Is God working in my life? That is a soul searching question. There are many seasons when God seems to be absent from my life. The question is: Has He abandoned me? Has He forgotten about me? Has He written me off for some reason? My topic at High School camp last week, was on the life of David. One of the truths that struck home in my studies is that God is working in my life even when I don’t realize it. I believe there are several aspects of David’s life that make him a “man after God’s own heart.” One of the aspects was that he was faithful no matter the circumstances of his life. Consider with me that a man or woman [or youth] after God’s own heart is forged through the choices that we make and don’t make. There is a fairly well know warning, “Be careful of the choices you make, because in the end the choices you make make you!” David’s life reminds us that making right choices is all about the small choices we make. Everyone seems to know the story of David and Goliath. We all marvel at the choice he made to honor God by facing the giant. Yet what is often missed is that this “big” choice did not stand alone. It just did not happen out of the blue. Rather, it was built upon the proverbial shoulders of many smaller choices like facing the bear and the lion. David was faithful in the small things. While his position of taking care of “a few small sheep” as his older bother would put it seemed insignificant, God was using his responsibility as a shepherd to prepare him to be King. Consider with me that it was during the long days and nights tending the flock that God developed courage in David’s life. I am convinced God brought smaller opportunities to develop courage before the Lion and the Lamb. What others considered insignificant was what prepared David to fell a giant, that not one professional soldier would face. It was also during these times that God developed David into an outstand musician. He would not only gain a place playing his harp for the King, but years later God would use him to develop the worship program of God’s people as the King. We must not forget to mention the catalog of his songs that was included in God’s Word earning him the title of Israel’s song writer. The hours spent tending sheep was also spent learning the use of the shepherd’s sling. The time afforded him the time to hone the skill that would fell a giant! Everyone at some point goes through those seasons when we wonder if we made a wrong turn or have been forgotten by God. What we fail to realize is that God is working in our life even when we don’t see it. The question is, am I willing to be faithful? Am I willing to make God-honoring choices in the small things knowing that, just like David, God is preparing me to serve Him in a greater way!? -Pastor Joe Parkinson
