My guys are Monk, Mingus, Nichols, and Silver. The great Horace Silver is gone. Horace Silver made jazz simple, melodic and swingin in a way EVERYONE could understand. He was a great composer. His tunes were so incredibly original yet haunting, somber yet joyful. His uptempo pieces were breakneck and on the edge while his ballads harked back to his Cape Verde roots. What an incredible legacy and 70 years of jazz behind him. Horace Silver was a giant of jazz composers and bandleaders. He is sorely missed. Horace Silver R.I.P.
