My, how a string of events can come together to make something - TopicsExpress

My, how a string of events can come together to make something strange happen. We worked a hundred steers today and took ear notch samples from them for a PI tissue test. After getting the calves finished around 2:30 ,I drove the truck home to unload the vaccine into the refrigerator and put the tissue samples in the car trunk for the trip to the E-town CST lab. Put Ringo and Elly Belly in the house because we dont want to get the car full of Elly hair, and I changed boots ,so as not to get the cow crap smell in the Buick. Came out and jumped into the car and dadgummit ,it wouldnt even turn over. Yep, dead battery, and no jumper cables to be found. Reloaded the samples into the truck, and being as I wasnt going in the car now, I let Ringo and Elly ride along. It was nice and warm this afternoon, so I let Ellys window all the way down so that she could let her ears flap in the wind. Ringo laid his head on my lap and took a nap. Just as we passed Jerry Brays house and heading towards Glenna Wethington Thompsons home, I saw a huge red tailed hawk fly across the road in front of us and grab a half grown rabbit off the road bank. It immediately turned around to fly back across the road just as we passed by and made a perfect entrance into Ellys rolled down window. What happened then was the most awful commotion ever to happen in a truck cab. Elly and Ringo thought the hawk was one of Miss Peggys Mean Roosters, so they werent about to mess with him, but they were for dang sure going to catch that rabbit! I was smacking at the hawk who was giving all of us a good flogging while trying to stop the truck with Elly and Ringo chasing the rabbit all over the top of me at the same time. All I could see was feathers and fur flying as I pulled over and opened the door. Out flew the hawk , and out jumped the rabbit with Elly and Ringo in hot pursuit. The scared pootless rabbit easily outran fat Elly, (the 435 pound Black Lab) and soon lost Ringo in the broomsage. I smacked the hawk feathers and rabbit fur out of the truck seats and finally got the hound dogs loaded back up. Feeling thankful no one else was coming up the road while all this happened, because had there been an accident ,Im pretty sure I would have had a hard time getting Sheriff Jimmy Clements to believe what happened. The good thing to remember here is that The Easter Bunny was about to be hawk food until fate intervened and made his getaway possible. Indeed, for Easter Bunnies, Life Is Good Today!
