My husband and I were in London this weekend to see family and like millions of others before us took the opportunity to go to the Tower to see the poppies. I have to say during the day it was heaving and I was disappointed in as much as I didnt have the time to reflect and absorb the enormity of the installation and what it stood for. We returned later in the evening when there were less people, but to be honest still went away feeling disappointed. However, the next day we visited the Imperial War Museum and as I sat down for a few minutes I found myself next to a lady and we got chatting. She and her husband were off to see the poppies later in the day and were wondering what it was like. I showed her our photos and it was then she explained that she had bought one of the poppies......for her son who had died serving in Afghanistan.....and in that moment, the millions of poppies became about one life and a realisation that each one made up the millions.......each one had served and given their life.......lest we forget.
