My kind of Saturday: Woke up and suggested a spur-of-the-moment road trip to Bellingham, WA. Anne and I packed up books and writing necessities, listened to Car Talk on the road, and then I read aloud from Christian Wimans memoir. In Bellingham, we had lunch at Avenue Bread, and spent hours there drinking coffee, reading, and writing. Had a surprise encounter with the firefighter who had been the first on the scene of our car accident two years ago this month. Brought back powerful feelings of gratitude for Gods grace. Then we hiked along the Bellingham waterfront boardwalk, read and wrote some more at The Woods coffee shop, and I had a very amusing chat with Joe Henry online, and swapped book recommendations with my old friend Mike Demkowicz. It was prom night, so we passed through big groups of couples posing for photos as we headed back along the boardwalk. Then to the home of Luci Shaw and John Hoyte for good wine, great conversation, and a beautiful sunset. At last, the long drive home listening to Wait, Wait, Dont Tell Me... Carl Castles farewell show. More days like this, please.
