My little feathery girl gang tries out their new chicken yard for a test drive. They were scared out of what teeny brains they had at first and then they were enjoying it. Its a little chilly so we didnt stay out but 15 minutes but it was nice to see them acting like the lil sweet chicky girls that they are. When we brought them in...we cleaned out their enclosure and gave them their food and water and are putting in some grit (eensy weensy pebbles for chicks) for the first time. Chickens cant digest tougher plants on their own. They have an organ connected to their digestive tract that they collect and store pebbles that helps grind up the food they eat. So they are on the road to big girl chicken food one baby chicky step at a time. Its funny....after we brought them in, their behavior was not typical. The girls that are usually more aloof of me were climbing all over me and the girls that love cuddles were comfortable and exploring their enclosure making sure there werent any delicious treats in there they needed to devour. The shy ones needed Mama cuddles. Im in my studio and there is a wall between us but I can still hear their contented peeps. It was a good introduction.
