My mom and a few others keep reminding of my promise to write a book one day, about all of it. The happy, the sad, the lessons, the hilarity. I have an amazing ability to bring chaos upon myself. Some of it flew out of the sky and landed on my head, but for the most part, I dived in with the eagerness of a 7 year old swimming their first gala; belly flop included. Usually I find my stroke and keep swimming. This morning I might just have found the opening page. It will start like this: I was sick in bed for the first time in many years, licking my wounds and nursing my crumpled ego having bailed from a beautiful race the day prior. My boyfriend, who might have been looking forward to the upcoming celebration of our 1 year anniversary and would undoubtably have preferred to spend the day checking his splits and loading his very successful race to STRAVA, instead found himself taking care of a miserable girlfriend with bad bed hair, and the domestic tasks within the circus that is my home. Breakfast orders for kids, tea orders for all, dog feeding, dishwashing, mediating sibling battles, welcoming the new gardener... I hadnt heard too many moans. One did you have to shit in the house? aimed at the smaller of my two dogs, but he was on top of things. Smiling even. Then the boyfriend decided to give me some sleep time. He rounded up the kidlets, ensured they were appropriately dressed, grabbed shopping bags and asked me for a shopping list. A choir of angels began to sing, and I wondered if my meds had me hallucinating. What an offer! Off they went. In the very moment that they drove down the road, and I grabbed my book and wriggled further down under my duvet, both dogs made their great escape through the legs of the bewildered new gardener, and made it all the way down the road and into the park where families were gathered for civilized Sunday picnics. I found myself barefoot, in pajamas and a gown, running down the road and into the park thinking, Yes Kim, this is your life and that is you in that gown screaming like a lunatic...
