My name is Boomer and I am a boy of about 8 years of age. I have had a hard life on the streets of Phuket, with no owner to take care of me. I had horrendous skin problems and I was constantly covered in ticks and fleas. My lovely coat was dirty and I felt ugly and unwanted. Everything changed for me when a man came along one day and scooped me up. Nobody had ever wanted to touch me before but this man held me in his arms and told me he would help me. His name is Khun Jaroon and he is an Animal Rescue Officer with Soi Dog. At the shelter, the vets took a good look at me and told me that as well as the ticks and fleas that were all over me and making my life a misery, I was also suffering from mange and a fungal skin problem, along with blood parasites and anaemia. I was a very sick boy. Since arriving at the shelter, I have known nothing but love and care. I feel safe for the first time in my life. I am being treated for everything that is wrong with me and I am starting to feel a bit better every day. When humans come to visit me, I want to stay beside them all the time. I never want to be alone again. I get scared when I think how different my life would have turned out were it not for the monthly donations of Soi Dog supporters. These kind people belong to a group called the Emergency Response Team, which means they send money every month to help Soi Dog care for animals like me. If it were not for these people, nobody from Soi Dog would have been able to pick me up and help me. I want you to know that there are so many other dogs like me out on those streets.
