My name is Sally Sherwood and I would very much appreciate your vote in the November election as your representative for District 5 Oneida County Legislature. District 5 covers the towns of Annsville, Camden, Florence, and part of Lee. Political Platform: You may remember me from the articles I placed in the Queen Central News a few years back entitled “The Camden TEA Party” that highlighted the 28 Principles of Liberty. What has happened to the TEA party since that time? BIG Government has happened, that’s what! It has been amazing to me how the mainstream media has stopped reporting the news, supplanting it with opinion focused on destroying the reputation of thousands of people who simply do not agree with BIG government ideas. The message of the TEA party and what it stands for has been largely distorted, but has never changed in its basic values or beliefs: We the people are Taxed Enough Already! Our country is at the brink of financial ruin, yet our government continues to push more people into government subsidy and dependency. People who truly need help should receive assistance. But local government is where the assistance process should stay, not through Albany or Washington DC. We know our neighbors. We know who needs help. The bigger our government gets, the greater the opportunities for fraud. The IRS has done its share to stifle the TEA party as well; through audits and unconstitutional application processes. Everyone has the right to practice our 1st Amendment – “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” We may not agree on every issue, but we have to agree that our constitution must be restored. Individuality is lost with Big government. This is why I am running for this office. I am a registered Republican with very strong conservative values. I believe in small government and that people should be able to keep the fruits of their labor. I support individual rights; our inalienable rights to “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness”. Our elected officials are shredding the Constitution with the Amendments and the Declaration of Independence. We need to wake up and shake up our elected representatives – they work for us, we don’t work for them. I want to work for you! When our tax dollars are spent appropriately and wisely, everyone benefits. But when our elected officials are more interested in promoting personal agendas and special interest groups or are too busy or disinterested to even read a bill before passing it, then everyone suffers. My Personal Background: I grew up in Taberg (Wilson Rd. West). I graduated from Camden High School in 1975 and continued my education at MVCC while working full time to earn my Associate’s degree. I then went on to earn my Bachelors and Masters degrees in Vocational Technical Education through SUNY Oswego. I began teaching for Madison-Oneida BOCES in 1983 as a Computer Programming / Business Teacher. I am happily married to Richard Sherwood and we have 3 daughters; Heather, Chelsea, and Shasta. My husband has a local construction business and we have lived in the Village of Camden for almost 20 years. I am an active member of the Camden Village Planning Board. I am a member of the Camden Wesleyan Church and a member of their worship team. In Conclusion: I believe that I can do a better job than the incumbent and the democrat candidate by bringing to the table a fresh look at the issues that face Oneida County today. I will be retiring from teaching in January that will allow me the necessary time to devote to this position. I am asking for your support and am praying that God will help me throughout this endeavor and bless our families, our neighborhoods, our towns, our county, our State, our great Nation. Thank you for your time and consideration. And I would be happy to answer any questions any of you might have
