My new course syllabus heavily references Mitchell Joachiim and hes right on target here with what were going for in the 2nd project at Tatung Uni. As we teach young designers, Its not enough to simply show them how to create new products for buildings, such as Nest, but to think critically about the profession. As Rem Koolhaas said in a recent interview. Its not only the smart home [what Im skeptical about] but also the smart cities, and I think that all these devices are about to really change the nature of architecture and the nature of cities, and the nature of cars, and I think it’s all done without asking actually us, or asking you, or without asking the population, so I think we need to be critical and we need to enforce some kind of discussion whether this is the way we really want to go or whether there are forms of resistance, or whether there are forms of real collaboration, because all of this is happening in laboratories in spaces that we don’t have access to. I want to have access. I want to collaborate, and I want the population at large to have an influence in this direction.” Here, Joachim speaks about this in greater detail. https://youtube/watch?v=eWpgidvBqHw
